Galton
Galton (ejtsd: galtn) Francis, angol utazó és iró, szül. Birminghamban 1822. A hires Darwin Erazmus unokája. Orvosi tanulmányai befejeztével 1846. utazásokat kezdett tenni s először Észak-Afrikába ment; 1850. a Bálna-öböltől kiindulva egész Dél-Afrika belsejébe hatolt s erre vonatkozólag irta: Narrative of an explorer in tropical South Africa (1853, 1890) c. művét, melyet a londoni földrajzi társaság aranyéremmel tüntetett ki. Egyéb művei: Hereditary genius, its laws and consequences (1869, főműve); English men of science, their nature and nurture (1874); Art of travel, or shifts and contrivancos in wild ceuntries (5. kiad. 1872); Inquiry into human faculty and its development (1883) stb.
