Deák Ferenc, Francis (Újvidék, 1899. márc. 5. – New York, 1972. jan. 21.): jogász, diplomáciatörténész, egyetemi tanár. A József Műegy.-en (1920-22), a Pázmány Péter Tudományegy.-en (1922-24), a párizsi École des Sciences Politiques-on (1924) és a cambridge-i Harvard Universityn (1925-27) tanult; nemzetközi jogból kapott doktori diplomát. A Harvard Universityn (1927-28) a nemzetközi jog előadója, a Nemzetközi Állandó Bíróság bírája (1927-28), a Columbia University tanára (1929-43). Néhány népszövetségi ülésszakon a genfi m. delegációnak gróf Apponyi Albert főmegbízott mellé beosztott tagja (1931-33), a m. delegáció tagja a londoni gazdasági konferencián (1933). A II. világháború alatt a Független Magyarországért Mozgalom amerikai bizottságának titkára. Az USA külügyi szolgálatában polgári légügyi attasé volt Svájcban, Jugoszláviában, Bulgáriában, Mo.-on Ausztriában, Csehszlovákiában, Franciao.-ban és Olaszo.-ban (1944-59). 1964-től a Rutgers University nemzetközi jogi karának professzora. Nagy számú nemzetközi jogi műve közül kiemelkednek a m.-román optánspert, az erdélyi m. birtokjogot, Mo. nemzetközi kapcsolatait és annak dokumentumait, továbbá a trianoni békeszerződés diplomáciai történetét feldolgozó tanulmányai. – F. m.
