Balogh József
Balogh József (1750 körül – Guayana, 1781): orvos, botanikus. Bécsben hallgatta az orvostudományokat, az orvosi diplomát 1779-ben szerezte meg Leidenben. 1779 őszén holland ösztöndíjjal a D-amerikai Holland Guayanába, a Rio de Berbice vidékére utazott, hogy az ottani növényvilágot tanulmányozza. 1780 elején Mária Terézia meghívta a kolozsvári ak. füvészeti tanszékére, de a meghívásnak már nem tehetett eleget. Specimen inaugurale botanico-medicum sistens praecipuas plantas in M. Transsylvaniae principatu sponte et sine cultura provenientes ac ibidem usu receptas (Lugduni Batavorum, 1779) c. művében elsőnek ismertette az erdélyi flórát. – Irod. Term. tud. Közl. (1891).
