Whittier János Greenleaf, északamerikai költő (általánosan queker-poétának hivják), szül. Haverhillben (Massachusetts) 1807 dec. 17. Néhány éven át szerkesztette a Pennsylvanian Freeman c. abolicionisztikus lapot. 1840. visszavonult Arnesburybe.
