Lubbock
Lubbock (ejtsd: löbbokk) János, sir, angol természetbuvár, régiségtudós és politikus, szül. Londonban 1834 ápril. 30. Atyjának banküzletébe lépett s 1870. liberális programmal beválasztatta magát a parlamentbe, de jelenleg az unionista párthoz tartozik. A londoni County council tagja és több tudományos társulat elnöke. Főérdeme irodalmi munkásságában rejlik, melyekben Darwinnak követője. Főmunkája: Prehistoric times, as illustrated by ancient remains (London 1865, magyarul Öreg János dr. fordításában); továbbá: The origin of civilisation and the primitive condition of man (u. o. 1870). Irta továbbá: The pleasures of life (u. o. 1881); The beauties of nature (u. o. 1892). Kisebb műveit Adresses political and educational (u. o. 1879) c. alatt adta ki.
