Edkins
Edkins József, angol hittérítő, szül. Nailsworthban 1823. 1848-80. a londoni hittérítőtársaság szolgálatában működött Khinában, és résztvett az uj testamentomnak khinai nyelvre való fordításában. A khinai mandarin tájszólás és sanghaii tájszólás nyelvtanán kivül megjelentek még tőle: Religion in China (3. kiad., London 1884); Cihnese Buddhism (1880); The evolution of the Cihnese language (1888); Evol. of the Hebrew language (1889) stb. 1880-85. a khinai kormányt szolgálta.
