Cust Robert-Needham, angol orientalista, szül. Cockayne-ben (Bedfort) 1821. Tanulmányait Etonban végezte, azután K.-Indiában töltött több évet, hol hivatalos teendőin kivül különösen nyelvészeti tanulmányokkal foglalkozott. Jelenleg Londonban él mint magánember. Számos tudományos társulatnak és az edinburghi egyetemnek tiszteletbeli tagja. Főbb művei: Modern languages of the East Indies; Modern languages of Africa and Oceania, Linguistic and oriental essays written from 1847-1890. I-III. Series (London 1880-1891).
