Cox, 1. Dávid, angol festő, szül. Birminghamban 1783., megh. 1859. 1803-tól Londonban sziházi diszletfestő volt, de csakhamar aquarellefestészetre adta magát és ebben Varley vezetése alatt olyan ereményeket ért el, hogy 1813. Az aquarellfestők társaságának tagja, 1814. A bagshoti hadi iskola rajztanára lett. 1815. Herefordba költözött, innen 1829. Beutazta Németalföldet és Franciaországot, azután Londonban, végra 1840. Harbvourneban telepedett le. Elméleti munkái: Treatise on landscape painting and effect in water colours (London 1814, 1816 és 1839); A series of progressive lessons intended to elucidate teh art of painting in water colours (u. o. 1845). V. ö. Solly, David C., a memoir (London 1873); Hall, David C. (u. o. 1881).
