Burney (ejtsd: börni), 1. Károly, angol zenetörténetíró, szüL Shrewsbury-ben 1726 ápr. 7., megh. 1814 ápr. 12. Elkészítette egy nagy zeneiskola tervét 1767; irt Händelről 1785; a Rees-féle « Cyclopaedia» zenei cikkei is tőle valók. Kiadta 1784. a pápai kápolna nagyheti ájtatosságának Palestrinától, Allegritől, Baitól származó zenéjét, s írt fuvolára hegedüre, zongorára, stb. darabokat.
2. B. Frances, az előbbeni leánya, szül. 1752 jun. 13., megh. Bathban 1840 jan. 6. Kedvelt regényeket irt, minők: Evelina (London 1778); Cecilia (u. o. 1782); Georgina (u. o. 1789); Camilla (u. o. 1796); The wanderer, or female difficulties (u. o. 1814).
