Radsendralála Mitra, bengáli nyelvész, szül. Kalkuttában 1822 febr. 26., megh. 1891 jul. 26. Eleinte orvosi pályára készült, de atyja e pályáról őt leterelvén, jogi s később szanszkrit tanulmányokra adta magát. 1846. az Asiatic Society könyvtárnoka, majd annak alelnöke lett. R. India egyik legtöbbre becsült benszülött tudósa volt. Érdemei elismeréséül sok kitüntetésben részesült, a m. tud. akadémia 1876. választotta kültagjává. Nevezetesebb munkái: Buddha-Gaya or the hermitage of Sakya-Muni (Kalkutta 1878); The antiquities of Orissa (u. o. 1875-81, 2 köt.); Indo-Aryans, contribution towards the elucidation of their ancient and mediaeval history (London 1881, 2 köt.); The Sanskrit buddhist literature of Nepal (Kalkutta 1882); The Lalita Vistara or memoirs of the early life of Sakya Simha (u. o. 1881-86); Taittiria Brahmana of the Black Yajur Veda with the commentary of Sayana (1855-1890, 3 köt.); Notices of Sanskrit manuescripts (Kalkutta 1870-1892, 10 köt.).
