Charchemis
Charchemis, assyr. Gargamis, Maspero és Kiepert szerint Hierapolis, syriai nyelven Mabog, arabul Menbidj (a m. forrás), mások szerint Ευρωπος (m. Dserábisz); semmi esetre sem a sokkal délibb Circesiummal (l. ezt) azonos helység; nyugatra az Euphratestől, a hol az Aegyptusból Mesopotamiába vezető nagy kereskedelmi út e folyamon átvonult. II.
